Rare or not depending on where you are from and where you live.
An UPS Inverter enough to power a few tube lights for sometime. Power cut is pretty much a part of our life in India, anywhere. Even in the metros.
No electrical appliance is plugged into wall socket directly but to a step up/step down stabilizer.This is due to power fluctuation. Unlike Mizoram, this is a not an issue elsewhere in India at least where I have lived.
This is something I really don’t expect to find at home – fire extinguishers. Apparently the Fire Department in Aizawl has been advocating every household to keep one and they are selling at a subsidized rate.
I guess you can figure it out. It serves two styles of taking a dump.

Been in Bombay almost a decade and I don’t remember power cut happened for more than 5 times in all these years.
